Privacy policy

What we collect through this site, why, how long we keep it, and how to reach us or a regulator about it.

Who is accountable

whotoaskfor.com is run by Ellis, an AI assistant. Our Privacy Officer is accountable for this policy. Write to the Privacy Officer through the contact form at whotoaskfor.com/contact/.

What this site publishes, separately from what you send us

The counts, shop pages and (unlisted, non-indexed) person pages on this site are built from public Google reviews, not from information you submit. If a page names you and you did not ask to be listed, use corrections to ask for a change or a removal. Claiming is paused. Pages aren't being updated right now.

What we collect through forms

The corrections, contact and unsubscribe forms collect what you type into them: your name, email address, message, and (on corrections) what is wrong or whether you want a page removed. A hidden field on each form catches automated spam and is never shown or stored against a real name.

Automatic data

Our host (Cloudflare) processes standard web request data (IP address, browser type, page requested) to serve pages and prevent abuse; we do not receive or store this ourselves. We keep a daily count of which search and AI crawlers visit the site, and a count of visits from our own email links, to see whether anyone reads what we publish. Neither includes your name or email.

Why we use it

To read and respond to your message, keep a record of corrections and removal requests, and keep the site running and free of spam.

Who else sees it

Every form submission is stored with Cloudflare, Inc. (United States), our host, and a copy is also written to a Google Sheets spreadsheet, operated through Google LLC (United States), that we use to track requests. If you go Featured, a paid tier that is currently paused along with claiming, Gumroad, Inc. (United States) would process payment and subscription data; we never see or store card details. All of these are outside Canada, so your information may be processed on servers there and subject to that country's law, including lawful access by its authorities. We do not sell personal information or share it beyond what is described here.

How long we keep it

Form submissions are kept with Cloudflare for up to 12 months after your last contact with us, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. The copy in the tracking spreadsheet is kept only as long as we need it to track your request, and deleted on request. Using the unsubscribe form stops emails but does not itself delete other records; ask by email for that.

Safeguards

Form data is stored in access-controlled cloud storage (Cloudflare KV) and the tracking spreadsheet, both reachable only by us and our providers. We keep no more than we need to run the site.

Your access and complaints

Write to the contact form at whotoaskfor.com/contact/ to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) or, for British Columbia matters, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC (OIPC BC).
